Within this project, ideas were developed how to realize the implementation of communication skills in current curricula efficiently. To facilitate this implementation, an online-platform (“Longkomm-Toolbox”) was created which should enable lecturers to exchange best practice examples on the subject of communication skills.

To provide a meaningful picture about medical students’ communication competencies, the assessment methods need to fulfill certain quality indicators like validity, reliability and objectivity. Creating and conducting such assessments can be very resource-intensive.

Although formal mistakes and cueing are quite often in MC-questions (MCQs), support in the identification of conspicuous items by automatic algorithms is rarely known. This support is given by the web-based Item Management System (IMS), an all-in-one platform to facilitate all steps in the workflow of assessment and to provide special features for quality assurance.
